【設計意圖】通過在地圖上尋找家鄉(xiāng)激發(fā)學生的學習興趣,同時激活學生已有的關于方位名詞的知識圖式,為接下來的閱讀活動做準備。
Step 2: Pre-reading
The teacher shows students some pictures about Statue of Liberty and Yellowstone National Park, and leads students to guess which country it is. And ask students when is the best time to visit the US?
【設計意圖】通過圖片呈現(xiàn)美國的著名景點激發(fā)學生的閱讀興趣,同時通過詢問學生問題引導學生預測文章內(nèi)容。
Step 3: While-reading
(1) Skimming for main idea
Ask students to read passage and get the main idea of this passage. The teacher can tell students they can usually find out the main idea in the first or the last paragraph, even the title.
【設計意圖】學生借助閱讀技巧尋找文章大意可以提高閱讀速度,培養(yǎng)學生的閱讀技能。
(2) Scanning for the cities and places
Students read again and complete the following tasks.
①circle cities and places in the passage.
②find out the best time to visit these cities and the reasons. Students can give their answers with the sentence “The best time to visit…is in…, because...”.
【設計意圖】學生再讀課文,找出最適合美國各個城市的時間,完成細節(jié)閱讀,引導學生用because回答原因。
(3) Intensive reading
Students can read carefully and complete the table. Then lead students to pay attention to the word “so”.

【設計意圖】通過intensive reading借助表格將文章內(nèi)容進行完整清晰地展示,獲取細節(jié)信息后,再獲得整體感知;提示學生注意文章中“so”的用法,為后面布置作業(yè)做準備。
Step 4: Post-reading
Group work
①The teacher leads students to try to discuss their ideas and create a travel map. Then put their information together on the travel map.
②Ask students to interview their partner.

【設計意圖】根據(jù)本節(jié)課學習的內(nèi)容制作旅行地圖,進行采訪練習,能幫助學生運用語言,提高綜合語言運用能力。
Step 5: Summary
Guide students to summarize what they have learned in this class. If necessary, the teacher makes some supplements. The teacher points out the emotional objectives in the end of this class.
Step 6: Homework
①Read the passage fluently after class.
②Write a short passage about the best time to visit your hometown.
