Women of achievements說課稿
Part 1 Analysis of teaching material
This lesson is taken from unit1 Women of achievements,NSEFC BOOK4.It’s a reading class.The main content of this passage is about a great woman named Jane Goodall who studies chimps in Africa.As we all know,reading is an indispensable ability for high school students,so learning this lesson well can lay a good foundation for their future learning.
The teaching objectives are as follows:
knowledge objective:students can understand the general idea and the details of the passage.
Ability objective:By encouraging them to use some reading skills like skimming and scanning,their reading ability will be enhanced a lot.
Emotional objective:Students can learn something about the great women in the world and can show respect for them.Meanwhile,they can be interested in English class.
As for the teaching key points,to help them grasp the general idea and detailed information of the passage.
While the teaching difficult points:how to develop students’ reading ability and to help the students grasp the main idea of each paragraph and the whole passage are difficult for students.
Part 2.Analysis of the students
Students in high School have learned English for several years already,they have got the basic abilities of listening,speaking,reading,and writing,but they still need many opportunities to practice what they have learned,to express their ideas,feelings,and experience and to develop
their self-dependent learning ability and cooperative learning ability.
Part 3.The teaching methods,the learning methods
When I deal with this lesson,I’ll do my best to carry out the methods,such as self-dependent learning method,cooperative learning method,task-based teaching and learning and so as to make the students the real masters in class while the teacher acts as director.
And I will adopt fast reading to get a general idea of the text and careful reading to get the detailed information;pair work or group work to get every student to be active in class.
Part 4.The teaching procedure
Step 1 Lead-in
At the beginning of the class,I will play a guessing game with students.I will describe several famous people in history using simple English,they have to guess who she is according to my description.For example:she is vary famous in Chinese history,she is the first female emperor and has made great difference to the development of China.In this way,their interest will be fostered and meanwhile they can be familiar with the topic today.
Step 2 Pre-reading
In this section I will put forward a question:can you try to predict the main idea of the passage according to the title and the pictures given on the PPT?They can talk with their partner and then give me their prediction.
Purpose:encourage students to communicate with others about the related topic and predict
the main idea of this passage.
Step 3 While-reading
Skimming:
(1)students read the passage as quickly as possible,checking their predictions and summarizing the main idea of this reading.
(2)Answer two questions:who is the protector and what animal are observed?
Scanning:
After skimming,students have to read the passage again and fill in the chart below.
What did Jane do after she came to Africa?What did she achieve?
Careful reading:
Then it’s time to solve some grammar problems for students.They have to predict the
meaning of the words:observing,entertainment,worthwhile...by using dictionary first.Then I will explain these words for them.
Step 4 Post-reading
After they have totally understood the passage,then they have to discuss a question:whether does Jane Goodall deserves our respect and what can we learn form her?They can discuss this question in group of 4,then the representative in each group will share their ideas to us.And I will give them some comments.
Purpose:using the task-based language teaching method to encourage students to have afurther understanding of the spirit of Jane Goodall and learn something from her.
Step 5 Summary
students have to retell the story with the help of the information on the blackboard.And I give them some supplements and comments.
Purpose:To review what the students have learned,develop their self-dependent learning ability and creative thinking ability.
Step 6 Homework
write a passage about a person they respect most and then share with us next class.
