6. exploit

熟義：v. 開發(fā)，開采，剝削

僻義：v.利用

You must exploit every opportunity to learn new things.你一定要利用一切機(jī)會(huì)學(xué)習(xí)新事物。

7. extend

熟義：擴(kuò)大，使擴(kuò)展，使伸長

僻義：v. 擴(kuò)大范圍，舒展(手腳)

He extended his hand to new employees.他向新員工展伸出了手。

熟義：失敗，不及格

僻義：

Our water supply failed.我們供水不足了。

He is failing in health/His health is failing. v. 衰退，衰弱

He failed to lend her a hand. v. 未能

He never fails to write to his mother every month.他從來不忘記每月寫信給他的母親

2. familiar

熟義：adj. 熟悉

I am not familiar with this city. 我對(duì)這個(gè)城市不熟悉。

僻義：adj. 密切的，親密

Are you on familiar terms with Tom?你和Tom交情好嗎?

3. fever

熟義：n. 發(fā)燒，發(fā)熱

僻義：n.狂熱，高度興奮

He is in a fever of her arrival. 他對(duì)她的帶來非常興奮。

4. figure

熟義：n.數(shù)字;雕塑，人物

僻義：

She figured that she would be next.v.認(rèn)為，想象

I couldn’t figure out what he meant.我不明白他是什么意思。

5. for good

永遠(yuǎn)(勿望文生義)

She’ll soon leave London for good.她將永遠(yuǎn)離開倫敦。

6. foreign

熟義：外國的

僻義：陌生;和……格格不入

The subject is foreign to me.不熟悉;

Telling lies is foreign to her nature. adj.和...格格不入的

1. gain

熟義：v. 獲得，贏得

僻義：

Don’t worry. My watch gains. We still have time. v. 表走得快

The car gained speed gradually. vt.增加(速度或重量)

2. get away with

熟義：帶著…逃跑

僻義：(做壞事)不受懲罰

The child ought to be punished.You shouldn’t let him get away with telling lies.

3. get back

熟義：回來/去，拿回來/去

僻義：報(bào)復(fù)

He will get back at you for this.

4. get down

熟義：下來，使下來

僻義：使情緒低落，身體虛弱

All this waiting and delay is really getting her down.這漫長的等待與拖延使她疲憊不堪了。

5. get down to

著手干某事(勿望文生義)

It’s time I got down to marking the papers.是我開始批改試卷的時(shí)候了。

6. get off

熟義：下車，離開，動(dòng)身

僻義：

I’ll have to get this letter off by tonight.今晚我一定得把信寄出去。

I’ll pay anything you ask if you manage to get her off.如果你能使她不受懲罰，你要什么我就可以給什么。
