2. Teaching Procedures

Step 1: Pre-listening

Activity 1 Free talk

Students talk about their favorite inventions in daily life.

Activity 2 Put the pictures in time order

Show students some pictures of computer, car, telephone and TV set. The teacher guides students to discuss them with their partner and put them in order according to the time when they were invented.

【設(shè)計意圖】自由談?wù)撃軌蛴行?gòu)建學(xué)生生活經(jīng)驗與所學(xué)內(nèi)容的聯(lián)系,幫助學(xué)生熟悉話題,復(fù)習(xí)相關(guān)主題單詞。將聽力文本中的圖片按照發(fā)明時間進(jìn)行排序,進(jìn)一步激活學(xué)生的相關(guān)背景知識,為聽力做好預(yù)熱準(zhǔn)備,激發(fā)聽力興趣。

Step 3: While-listening

(1) Listen for the gist

Students listen for the first time and choose the most suitable title for the listening text.

【設(shè)計意圖】初聽文本,選取合適的標(biāo)題,有助于學(xué)生了解其基本大意,從整體上把握聽力材料。

(2) Listen for the detailed information

①Listen and match

Students listen to the tape for the second time and match the time to the inventions:

①Listen and answer the following questions

Why does the woman say “I think you need to take a history class, Alice” ?

When might the woman was born?

【設(shè)計意圖】通過匹配連線以及回答問題活動,幫助學(xué)生進(jìn)一步關(guān)注聽力文本細(xì)節(jié),重點關(guān)注發(fā)明的名稱、時間等細(xì)節(jié)信息,進(jìn)一步在對話語境中理解關(guān)鍵詞及句式表達(dá)。

Step 4: Post-listening

(1)Listen to the tape and read in different roles together.

(2)Role-play

Set the scene that students will participate in different World’s Fair(世界博覽會)of different times (1920s, 1930s, 1950s, 1980s, etc.). They are asked to choose one World’s Fair and work in groups of 4 to introduce the exhibition to each other. Students will make use of the passive voice “…was/were invented in…” frequently and naturally in the communicative activity.

【設(shè)計意圖】檢查學(xué)生對聽力材料的理解程度,并培養(yǎng)學(xué)生用所獲取的知識來解決問題的能力。這些活動能把聽說有效結(jié)合起來,使學(xué)生增多了體會語言、感悟語言、內(nèi)化語言的機(jī)會。

Step 5:Summary

Guide some students to make a summary about this class; if necessary, the teacher then makes supplements. The teacher tells students that they should be able to observe and cherish the improvement of society in their daily life.

Step 6:Homework

Search for information about their favorite inventions, and try to summarize the time and functions of these inventions and share with others next time.
